Russian literature
Before 19–th century Russia produced very little literature, but after that period Russian literature prospered. The 19-th century was a golden period not only for literature, but also for art, music and architecture. By the end of the 19-th century the Golden Age of Russian literature ended.
The XX-th century was marked by the beginning of the Silver Period in Russian literature. Famous Russian poets Alexander Block, Anna Akhmatova and Anton Chekhov wrote their masterpieces during that period. However, after the Revolution in 1917 works of many Russian writers, who were not supported by the government, went underground. The works of these writers were published only after their death.
Nowadays Russian literature is extending more and more. Freedom In literature gave an opportunity for everyone to write about anything. Some of Russian writers have already received Nobel Prizes for their works.

Most of the famous works of Russian writers were staged in the theatres. Many popular films both abroad and in Russia were produced based on works of Russian writers.
